Poem and meaning

“…and lie beneath the black sun, basking in its shadow forevermore.”

Taylor M. Wilson
I had a dream that all was dark,
The dawn did waver before the shadow

The people of the lands had cried,
"Oh God has died"

But a voice commanded from beyond the void,
"I am not the light and you are free"

I am new to writing poems, so don’t expect any impressive intricacy until I get a bit more practice (if you have any tips/advice feel free to comment). I am not sure how well my idea was portrayed in the above poem, so I will try to explain it (again please comment if it was portrayed effectively and any advice if it was not).

This poem came to me, less from an actual dream, rather, from a state of mind that comes to me at times. (will also expand on this in another post) I want to illustrate the idea that perhaps God, or whatever you see as the absolute good, does not exist as light. That God isn’t this infinitely bright “energy” but rather “the shadow”. In the poem the people of the world see light as the good and therefor, the darkness to be evil or dreadful. As the light gets extinguished from the world the people declare that good has essentially vanished from the world. However where I seek to illustrate the idea I mentioned, the voice of God bellows out from the void that He never existed within the light and that as it has been extinguished, the people have been freed from the prison (sort of? maybe control, influence, reign) of the light.

“So what?” I think it is interesting that the of the enemy of goodness is so often associated with darkness. Obviously it has ties to the fact that darkness is dangerous, I mean, predators come out at night, visibility is limited in the dark, darkness is just generally an inconvenience. However I sometimes try to look at darkness differently, I associate calmness, relaxation, silence, and in short, “peace”, with the darkness. I think that it’s in darkness that we become less of just our “bodily selves” and become closer to the spirit of the divine. To back this up, think, is it not in our most fundamental states that we are closest to that which created us? I believe it can be agreed that the overflow of senses that berate us at all times of our lives distract us and take us away from that fundamental state. I think it can be agreed that darkness frees us from this at least in some way.

I will wrap this up with another thought that came to me, if it was found out that the things that are of the good, are not those that we think, and vise versa in regards to what we refer to as “of the bad”, would our worship be changed? Or, would we stay faithful to our faulted associations? Would it be wrong to change? Is a thing good because it is of God, or do we create the foundations of God from what we see as good for alternate reasons?

There is much more on this that I would like to get into, and much more on the quote I inserted at the beginning of this post. If you return for future posts, I hope to expand, or explore different perspectives, of everything within this post. I have a lot to share on this blog I just want to get some posts out to form the foundation for my future posts. Maybe I will make a page dedicated to giving my personal definitions to terms or words I use in a non conventional connotation. Anyways, I hope to paint a full picture of the world I believe I, and others, exist within. Thank you for reading, please comment on anything that makes no sense. Thanks again.

With all hopes of future joys,
